Worshipping God – Making Disciples
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”John 8:12
Welcome to the Website of the Anglican Parish of Woolston.
Our Church complex is situated on the corner of Ferry Road and St Johns Street in Woolston, Christchurch.
The parish has been a centre of Christian worship, witness, and service since 1857. The current church, dedicated to St John the Evangelist, was opened in the early 1960s and was extensively repaired and refurbished after the earthquakes of 2011.
Currently we are very much a work in progress. We love welcoming newcomers and helping them feel at home as we celebrate God’s love for us through Jesus Christ.
Our main Sunday service is a weekly Eucharist held at 10.00 a.m. followed by morning tea.
See the Services and Events page for more details of what we offer the community each week. Also a list of our Christmas and New Year Services.
A special service of Lessons and Carols – Sunday 15 December at 5 p.m. followed by soup and sausages for those who wish to stay on. All welcome
The season of ADVENT started on 1 December 2019. It was also the start of the new Christian year!
Advent is a time of waiting. We are waiting for Jesus to come to us. The season of Advent starts four Sundays before Christmas, and as we take time to prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth long ago in Bethlehem, we think about the different ways God comes to us today. The themes of Advent are watching and waiting, preparing and trusting.
